壮族的传统建筑是“干栏式”的房子。“干栏”又叫“麻栏”、“阁楼”，分为上下两层，以木、竹为桩柱、楼板和墙壁，楼上住人，楼下养牲畜、堆放杂物。一般干栏多依山傍水，四面向着田野。有些村寨家家相通，连成一体，就像一个大家庭。
布依族习惯依山傍水聚族而居。典型民居是用薄石板搭盖“干栏式”房屋。除檩条和椽木之外，房顶和墙壁均为石板。它建筑经济、古朴美观、而且可以防风雨、避火灾等。浅灰白色的石料，白昼中是银光闪烁，月夜下似凝霜覆雪，煞是好看美观。
