崇圣寺三塔位于大理古城西北部1.5公里处，西对苍山应乐峰，东对洱海，距山脚约为1500米。
三塔由一大二小三阁组成。大塔又名千寻塔，当地群众称它为“文笔塔”，通高69.13米，底方9.9米，为大理地区典型的密檐式空心四方形砖塔。南北小塔均为十级，高42.17米，为八角形密檐式空心砖塔。三座塔鼎足而立，千寻塔居中，二小塔南北拱卫。1961年3月4日，被国务院公布为第一批全国重点文物保护单位.
Chongsheng Temple is located 1.5 kilometers northwest of Dali ancient city, west to Cangshan Yingle Peak, east to Erhai Lake, about 1500 meters from the foot of the mountain.
The three towers consist one big and two small pavilions. The large tower, also known as the “thousand fathom Tower”, is known as the "writing tower "by the local people, with a height of 69.13 meters and a base of 9.9 meters. It is a typical dense eaves type hollow square brick tower in Dali area. North and South small towers are ten levels,42.17 meters high,which are octagonal dense eaves type hollow brick towers. The Three towers stand like a tripod,with the thousand fathom tower in the center and the two small tower in the north and south. In March 4,1961, it was regarded as the first national key cultural relics protection units announced by the State Council .
历史沿革Historical evolution
崇圣寺三塔始建于南诏王劝丰祐时期（公元824—859年），先建了大塔“千寻塔”，高69.13米，是座方形密檐式砖塔，共16层。稍后又建了南、北小塔，均高42.19米，是一对八角形的砖塔，都是10级。
The three towers of Chongsheng Temple were built during the period of Nanzhao King"s persuasion and Fengyou (824-859 AD). The large tower "thousand fathom Tower", which is 69.13 meters high, is a square dense eaves brick tower with a total of 16 stories. Later, the south and north towers, all 42.19 meters high, are a pair of octagonal brick towers, all of which are level 10.
修建三塔，除了佛家所宣扬的修建塔可以成佛外，还有一个重要的原因，是大理古为“泽国多水患”。古籍《金石萃编》中记载：“世传龙性敬塔而畏鹏，大理旧为龙泽，故为此镇压之。”
In addition to what Buddhists preach that the building of pagoda can help become Buddhas, there is also an important reason for the construction of the three pagodas, which is that Dali was a "land-rich disaster" in ancient China. The ancient book "Golden Stone extraction" records: " the dragon honors the tower and fears Peng, and Dali used to be Longze“dragon moor”, so the building of three pagodascan be used to suppressthe evil dragon and keep the people there safe."
相传古时修建三塔，采用垫一层土修一层塔的方法，塔修好以后，才将土逐层挖去，让塔显现出来，故有“堆土建塔”与“挖土现塔”之说。
It is said that in ancient times, the method of building was that one layer of soil was adopted while one floor of tower was built. After the tower was built completely the soil was dug up layer by layer and the tower appeared. Therefore, there is the theory of "pile-up civil tower" and "dig ground and present tower". The bridge built when the tower was built, as high as a hill, lasted more than 10 miles.
建塔时所搭的桥，高如山丘，长达10余里。修塔时运力不足，还用山羊来驮砖，如今大理的银桥村，古时称为“塔桥村”。

古籍记载修三塔，“役工匠七百七十万，耗四万余金，历时八年建成”。修建三塔后，又建了规模弘大的崇圣寺。
